Leading Transformation with Purpose: Dr. Jayachith I C’s Journey from Business Leadership to an Professional Doctorate
The responsibilities of a business leader rarely remain the same throughout a career. As organisations grow and markets change, experienced professionals often find themselves moving beyond the function in which they began. Sales becomes strategy. Managing projects develops into managing transformation. Delivering results gradually expands into improving the systems, processes, and people responsible for those results.
This progression becomes even more important in global organisations, where leaders are expected to work across functions, cultures, technologies, and business priorities.
For senior professionals who have reached this stage, higher education can serve a different purpose than it did at the beginning of their careers. It is no longer simply about acquiring a qualification. It can provide an opportunity to examine years of professional experience more closely, connect practice with wider management thinking, and develop a broader perspective on leadership.
The career of Dr. Jayachith I C reflects this evolution.
With close to three decades of professional experience and a career spanning sales, marketing, customer experience, strategy, sustainability, operations, process management, and business transformation, Dr. Jayachith has built his leadership experience across several dimensions of business.
His decision to pursue an Professional Doctorate in Business Administration from East Bridge University, Paris, France, represents another important stage in that journey.
Building a Career Across Business Functions
Dr. Jayachith began his professional career in sales and marketing with Sun Pharmaceuticals, where he progressed from Marketing & Sales Executive to Regional Manager.
The years that followed gave him exposure to very different industries and business environments. At Godrej & Boyce, he worked in regional marketing and sales for office automation products, handling market development, distributor networks, product promotion, and business growth.
He subsequently joined Maruti Suzuki as Brand Leader – Marketing & Sales for high-end segments. One of the notable responsibilities during this period was his involvement in building the Swift brand in South India as part of its national launch. His role covered business development, marketing strategy, promotional programs, customer loyalty, and business performance through market partners.
A move into service operations and delivery followed before he joined Schneider Electric in 2007—an association that has now extended for more than 18 years.
It was here that the breadth of his professional experience began to develop substantially.
From Commercial Leadership to Global Transformation
Dr. Jayachith's journey within Schneider Electric began in Marketing and Business Development. Over the years, he moved through a series of roles encompassing strategic accounts, global offer marketing and sales, strategy and sustainability, customer satisfaction and quality, operations, and eventually global business transformation.
As Strategic Accounts Manager, he worked closely with senior decision-makers across sectors such as hospitality, food and beverage, and life sciences. Later, as Global Offer Marketing & Sales Leader, his responsibilities extended across EMEAS, APAC, and North America, providing significant exposure to international markets and diverse business environments.
His subsequent role in Project and Program Management brought strategy and sustainability more directly into his work. He managed projects and programs designed to address business requirements, customer needs, new offers, and sustainability goals.
From there, he took responsibility for Customer Satisfaction & Quality across India and the EAJ region, focusing on technical support, continuous improvement, training, customer experience, and transformation of processes and tools.
Each move added a different dimension to his understanding of how an organisation operates.
Rather than remaining within one specialised function, his career gradually brought together commercial performance, customer experience, operational excellence, sustainability, process improvement, and organisational transformation.
In October 2021, he moved into the role of Global Operations & Transformation Leader, managing operations for business process and transformation projects as well as end-to-end mega processes within Schneider Electric.
Since March 2024, he has served as Global Process Management Director – Business Transformation, leading process management excellence, architecture, capability building, global community development, and process platform management supporting end-to-end business processes within the organisation's Global Business Transformation program.
Strengthening Experience Through Continuous Learning
Despite an extensive corporate career, Dr. Jayachith has continued to invest in his academic and professional development.
He holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Calicut and completed the Senior Management Programme at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. His additional professional credentials include Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, ESG Expert Certification, Professional Life Coach Certification, and certification through the Independent Directors' Programme.
This combination is particularly relevant to the direction his career has taken.
Business transformation today is rarely achieved through technology or process redesign alone. It requires leaders who can understand strategy, governance, people, customer expectations, operational performance, and change at the same time.
Dr. Jayachith describes his own leadership approach as collaborative, data-driven, and results-oriented, with a focus on bringing together people, processes, governance, and technology to create measurable impact.
His academic development has therefore progressed alongside his professional responsibilities rather than separately from them.
Taking Professional Experience to the Doctoral Level
After years of managing business functions and leading transformation initiatives, Dr. Jayachith pursued an Professional Doctorate in Business Administration at East Bridge University, Paris, France, completing the program in 2025.
For a senior professional, doctoral learning can take on a very different meaning from education pursued at an earlier stage of a career.
By this point, the learner brings years of decisions, challenges, successes, failures, organisational changes, and leadership experiences into the academic environment. Concepts can be considered against situations the professional has actually encountered, making the learning more closely connected with practice.
For Dr. Jayachith, whose work already involves global business transformation, process architecture, operational excellence, governance, and strategic change, the Professional Doctorate provided a natural continuation of a career centred increasingly on enterprise-level thinking.
It complemented an existing foundation built through an MBA, senior management education at IIM Calcutta, professional certifications, and decades of practical leadership.
More importantly, it represents something that can sometimes be overlooked in senior careers: reaching an advanced leadership position does not remove the need to learn. In many cases, greater responsibility creates an even stronger reason to continue learning.
The Value of an Professional Doctorate for Experienced Business Leaders
An Professional Doctorate in Business Administration is particularly relevant for professionals who already possess substantial management and leadership experience and want to engage with business challenges from a deeper strategic perspective.
Unlike education pursued primarily to enter a profession, doctoral-level learning for experienced executives can help them examine the realities they have encountered throughout their careers—how organisations transform, why strategies succeed or fail, how processes influence performance, and how leadership decisions affect people and business outcomes.
It can also encourage senior professionals to look beyond their immediate responsibilities and consider wider questions surrounding governance, sustainability, innovation, organisational effectiveness, and long-term value creation.
For leaders such as Dr. Jayachith, the relationship between experience and education therefore works both ways. Academic learning provides frameworks through which professional challenges can be examined, while years of experience provide the practical context required to question, interpret, and apply those ideas.
This intersection of professional practice and advanced learning is where an Professional Doctorate can hold particular value.
Preparing for the Next Dimension of Leadership
Dr. Jayachith's professional interests today extend beyond business transformation and operational leadership into areas such as corporate governance, board excellence, advisory work, consulting, and strategic collaboration.
His certification as an Independent Board Director and ESG Expert further reflects this direction.
This is a natural progression for a professional whose career has moved steadily from managing products and markets to working with enterprise-wide processes, transformation programs, sustainability initiatives, and governance.
The next stage of leadership is not always about managing a larger team or taking responsibility for another function. For experienced executives, it can also mean using accumulated knowledge to influence organisations at a strategic, advisory, or board level.
Dr. Jayachith's journey illustrates how professional experience, continuous learning, and doctoral education can come together at precisely this stage of a career.
A Journey That Continues to Evolve

His journey has moved progressively from managing markets and customers to managing processes, transformation, and organisational capability.
